al@17992 1 D-Bus is a message bus, used for sending messages between applications.
al@17992 2 Conceptually, it fits somewhere in between raw sockets and CORBA in terms of
al@17992 3 complexity.
al@17992 4
al@17992 5 D-Bus supports broadcast messages, asynchronous messages (thus decreasing
al@17992 6 latency), authentication, and more. It is designed to be low-overhead; messages
al@17992 7 are sent using a binary protocol, not using XML. D-Bus also supports a method
al@17992 8 call mapping for its messages, but it is not required; this makes using the
al@17992 9 system quite simple.
al@17992 10
al@17992 11 It comes with several bindings, including GLib, Python, Qt and Java.
